There is hope

The Drop Everything And Read (“DEAR”) initiative is proving to be a great tool of improving students understanding and use of the English language.

In the past week, we have read of many congratulations to students who have passed with distinguished marks. To the students, their peers and parents, commendation for the great effort. To those who have not done as well as they would have thought, there is still hope.

There are bridging courses available. There are trades and internship with companies in areas of your dream. Don’t give up!In this post, however, I want to congratulate all the teachers who have worked hard in teaching these exam classes through a very trying and uncertain period of 2020.

In March, the schools were forced to close, due to the onset of this life threatening global pandemic. Teachers would have had to work hard, reset and engage their classes after 14 weeks of students being at home with their parents. It would be at these teachers effort, energy and encouragement that students results have been better in a rather shortened academic year due to COVID19.

Teachers are the unsung heroes of our achievements. Our children’s progress have largely been shaped by these teachers parenting attitude, approach and nurturing that most parents don’t seem to appreciate.

It is important that we salute them for their initiative, their passion, their commitment and more so, their perseverance in the last year. To all our teachers, we owe you!

Fiji owes you for what you all do with passion! We look forward to greater achievements and better results in 2021! #ForwardFiji
