Mosese Bulitavu remains a Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) member of the House of Representatives despite voting in support of the Government motion on the Fiji Airways guarantee last week.
SODELPA deputy leader, Filimoni Vosarogo confirmed this in a statement saying the acclamation by Mr Bulitavu to support the motion was in contrast to the position taken by the remaining SODELPA members of parliament on the issue.
Mr Vosarogo said Mr Bulitavu has been informed in no uncertain terms that his support of the motion when his colleagues laboured to oppose the motion does not augur well for parliamentary collegiality.
“He has apologised for his choice and as a party, we encourage our members of parliament to build consistency of approach in this difficult time of negotiating tough national and socio-economic challenges,” Mr Vosarogo said.
He said whilst Mr Bulitavu’s views were disappointing as it clearly defied the commonly held views of the rest of the MPs to oppose the motion, the absence of a party directive on the issue meant that the support rendered by Mr Bulitavu to the motion cannot be sanctioned under Section 63 (1)(h) and (3) of the Constitution 2013.
